"Our ideal is not the spirituality
that withdraws from life but the conquest of life by the power of the spirit." -
Sri Aurobindo.
The Mobius Strip
is an expression of non-duality. From
the perspective of the Siddhar Sages, the realized yogis, the sacred trinity in
its many forms (the biblical Holy Father, Holy Ghost and Holy Son being one of
the several trinities of several levels of wisdom) dissolves dualities. The
sacred trinity reveals the Unity of all polarities, creating a state of Oneness,
joining the whole and the part, the masculine and the feminine, expansion and
contraction, spirit and matter, etc. Everything is One and nothing can be
separated from anything else.
All is completely intertwined, infinitely. The Mobius Strip is a
spiritually significant symbol of balance and union. (Yoga=Union) The Buddhist
philosophy of Tantrism also is expressed by the Mobius Strip shape. "Tantra" is
continuity; the word derived from the root 'tan', meaning to extend... extend
continuously, to flow, to weave. The continuum is descriptive of the Nature of
Reality, by contemporary physicist David Bohm..."a single unbroken wholeness in
flowing movement."
The Mobius Strip was discovered in 1858 by German
mathematician and astronomer August Ferdinand Mobius (1790-1868). The
mathematical equation is known as The Mobius Transformation, also known as
bilinear transformation or linear fractional transformation. (Webster's
dictionary:" A map of the complex plane to itself in which a point "z" is mapped
to a point "w" by w=(az+b)/(cz+d), where a,b,c, and d are complex numbers and
ad-bc does not equal zero.") It is a continuous loop with one surface and one
edge formed by twisting one end of a long, thin rectangular strip 180 degrees
(1/2 twist) and attaching this end to the other.
This fascinating shape expresses
Transformation. Today
the Mobius Strip has been chosen as the Universal symbol of recycling.
It represents the process of transforming waste materials into useful resources.
On a personal level, the Mobius strip represents a willingness to move WITH the
constantly changing cycles in our Life process, transforming our challenges into
useful solutions. The Mobius Strip reveals planetary transformation, as well.
Historically, there has always been Earth
changes, i.e. natural re-structuring of land and ocean masses, tide changes,
weather changes, seasonal changes, etc. The Mobius Strip shape is symbolic of
eternal change within stillness itself.
PAPER
WITH ONLY ONE SURFACE! Take a 12" strip of paper (1" wide) and twist
one end 180 degrees. Tape the ends together. You have a Mobius Strip! Start
drawing a pencil line all around, from the inside to the outside and back where
you started. You'll find you never lifted the pencil off the paper and yet the
one surface has a complete line through it. The inside becomes the outside and
the outside becomes the inside. Continue by cutting along the pencil line.
Instead of 2 separate strips of paper, you have ONE long Mobius Strip. Cut along
the center of this strip again and you'll get two totally intertwined strips
that don't separate. Do this forever, and you'll get an infinite number of
intertwined strips that never separate!

Yantra of Transformation
& Enlightenment
 |
This two-tone pendant expresses the ancient symbol of the union of male and female, heaven and earth, God and Human. It is known as the Muruga Yantra, that is also the Star of David; two triangles of opposites coming together. This is the realization in the third eye. When the inner awakened fires of Mother Kundalini reach to merge with the realization of Light at the third eye, we are awakened to higher wisdom. We know our true purpose and we manifest every thought. |
